I have written a bit about other collective astrological developments in past writings:
- Pluto’s transit through Capricorn and the great transformation of the Father Principle of structure, culture, institutions and ways we organize our world.
- I’ve written about Uranus transiting through Aries, the great revolutionary energy sweeping through the warrior archetype – catalyzing our basic need for autonomy and liberation.
- And I have written about Saturn moving through Libra and the law of limitation/restriction asking us to take responsibility for the basic way we come into relationship with life.
But today I want to honor another extremely significant transit. On Feb 4th Neptune re-entered Pisces (after a brief retrograde) and is here to stay until 2026. In our time, Neptune is as big of a player in the global shifts as Pluto and Uranus. Neptune brings a powerful sea change sweeping up from the deep oceans of our watery, empathic, dreaming, and interconnected selves – imagination from the deep, compassionate heart that can guide the way in this time of re-creation.
Neptune orbits every 165, so it has been a while time since we have had Neptune at home in it’s sign of Pisces. When a planet is at home in it’s own sign it amplifies and empowers the qualities of that sign. In the past this transit has coincided with shifts in spiritual and religious perspectives and marks a time when the old metaphors that we have used to contain the principle of the Divine are no longer sufficient. New metaphors, practices and expanded meaning are emerging in human consciousness. Our need for ecstatic experience, connection to something greater, to the heart of compassion and to sacred rituals has never been more pronounced.
Many individuals will follow this impulse for ecstatic connection and oneness into the realm of drug use. The longing for the ecstatic is human and essential yet we clearly lack, in mainstream culture, the sacred rituals that connect us to this larger sense of our divine connection. Thus many of us turn to the illusion of this connection through drugs. But it’s not the real thing, and keeps the hunger alive (addiction).
However, our longing for meaning is forging new paths. We are reaching for new metaphors that can transmit and hold the transcendent realm. Healers and witches call this realm energy and connect to it through magic, intuition and ritual. Scientists call it the Unified Field and have found ways to study the phenomenon of our connection, researching the impact of prayer, for example. Your practical neighbor calls it community. Artists call it imagination and learn how to open themselves as collaborative and creative partners. Dancers call it ecstasy, Yoda called it The Force, mystics call it compassion, and Jesus called it love.
Whatever we call it and however we open up to it, we are at a time of readiness and willingness for a greater connection to that which binds us. We are ready for a new imagination, a new vision, and a new collective heart. If you have ever had the desire to learn about energy this is the time. There will be an increase in our ability to listen, feel, and sense through our intuition. This next decade is the best time to learn how to connect with this realm of art, magic, wonder and rapture through studying the art of intuition, writing poetry, taking walks in nature, artistic expression, and the art of simple human kindness.
As Pluto rips apart our old structures, and Uranus awakens our birthright to be who we are, Neptune presents the sensing, imaginative, and compassionate heart as our path to creating the new world we wish to live in. Here are three wonderful things I’ve come across lately that are great guides to the Neptune in Pisces era we are moving into:
1) A wonderful concept was introduced to me at a Chinese Astrology talk I went to about the about 2012, The Year of The Water Dragon. Liu Ming, the speaker, introduced the idea of the “community body.” According to him, we all live in many bodies at once: the personal body, the family body, and the political body; even the TV program you watch every week is a body you live in and share with others.
According to Liu Ming, this year is the year to develop the “community body.” We are ready to live in a bigger body, to sense ourselves, and our connections, through a larger framework. Being aware of and consciously choosing what body of consciousness you are a part of is very important this year. What communities, what thoughts, and what practices you are involved in have great collective impact.
2.) There is a movement right now called the Global Heart Initiative, where individuals and communities are coming together to envision a new way of living and being together:
Here’s an excerpt of their vision:
Gone are the days of the lone savior. Brilliant prophets, philosophers, states-people, scientists, creatives, etc. have graced humanity throughout time, leaving a world of influence in their wake.
Think about it.
How deep have those changes gone toward healing our human condition? Here we stand at the brink of catastrophic consequence with enormous gaps of understanding yet to bridge. The puzzle remains. How do we coexist harmoniously, with Love and respect for each other and our planet? The deep, sustainable solutions that will steer us home to a peaceful and thriving coexistence are coming not from a single source, but from collective waves of brilliance, inspiration and insight. We are discovering what works for all, by the participation and representation of all.
Sustainable and just change that works for everyone follows in the wake of the will of many. This unprecedented time in human history is more and more being driven by the global collective, a global unity, a global vision, a global heart—a heart that cares about others as much as one’s self. This is the core of every great wisdom teaching through every age.
The resources and technologies to right our world are present now. Together, joined in mind, heart and will, everything is possible. Solutions that work are up to us all—individually together.
I LOVE IT!! I VOTE TO BE A PART OF THIS COMMUNITY BODY!
3.) And lastly, from the fruits of my recent foray into collecting records (a journey that merits it’s own blogpost) I came upon a true treasure! Buffy Sainte Marie! a folk singer that was part of the early to mid-1960s folk scene with Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen. She’s such a mix of the revolutionary activist of Uranus in Aries, the power of truth-telling Pluto and a true Neptune in Pisces mystic!
Here is your chance to hear her song, and my Neptune in Pisces anthem! Her rendition of Leonard Cohen’s poem “God Is Alive, Magic Is Afoot.”
